IP based Video Surveillance Print
May 2012
An IT company is not naturally good with physical security which is outside the technical domain of IT traditionally. We must treat each application of technology as a specialist area and develop expertise and acquire practical experience as such.  Compucon entered IP based Video Surveillance in 2008 based on 17 years of industrial SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) experience of its system architect.  CNZ owns formal security licences and has implemented 3 medium scale IPVS projects.   (IP is an open technical standard for subsystems to interface)

All projects have very specific user requirements as they are geographically and demographically different.  Project 1 is for 500 apartment units, car parks, retail shops and public space in Newmarket.  Project 2 is for streets and street corners funded by the local business association in Kaikohe.  Project 3 is for border protection of a complex of offices and factories at a location not meant to be made public.  Project 4 is being launched in North Harbour for businesses.

An IPVS system consists of 3 very different hardware types- cameras, recorder and the connecting fabric.  We adopt open standards and all equipment used are IP based so that an IPVS system can connect to a local area network and the Internet for maximum business benefits.

Camera is indeed an area directly related to the quality of physical security surveillance.  We have identified 26 factors for selecting the most appropriate camera capabilities for project use.  At the same time, we avoid a wildly mix and match approach and apply FFP and TCO principles for optimum effects.
